The Future’s Past uses technology, media and modern forms of communication to engage historic materials and draw connections between the past and the present for the next generation of leaders in arts, culture, journalism and activism. Working in conjunction with temporary public installations and responding to the history of five locations along the boulevard, the work in this exhibition serves as a collaborative visual reaction to South Parkway’s history translated into the unique voice of each individual artist.
As the saying goes, you don’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been. The project overall seeks to not only provide a point of entry into this rich history through a very public and visual means, but also give a sense of pride, value and perspective when thinking about how we can approach our own individual legacies and ultimately the future of Chicago’s Black Metropolis.
